There are many ways to pursue and advance a career to bring value to Indonesia. Being a professional worker in a private or state institution is one of them.
Speaking of working in the private sector, today, we are witnessing an exponential rise of startups. Like mushrooms spring up in the rainy season, startups are growing rapidly in number and sectors. This phenomenon has also brought about famous names as their business players.

Some of the reasons young professionals join startups are because they are lured by the high salaries and benefits offered. Many of them leave their current companies and move to startups that offer a salary and benefits deemed to be better.
Still, many other young professionals prefer to work as corporate staff or employees. A clearer career path and a more established and financially stable company are some of the reasons they put forward.
The Differences between a Startup and a Corporate
So, what are the differences between a startup and a corporate? The first difference can be seen in the working hours. A startup tends to have more flexible and dynamic working hours as they are not fixed and non-binding.
Second, the salary and benefits that an employee can receive depend on how small or big the company is. If the company's income from capital injections is high, the salary and benefits received by an employee will also be higher.

Contrarily, payroll rules are more stringent in a corporate. This is also true for benefits and bonuses that are determined by the mechanisms and rules set by the company's management with various considerations.
The third one is the work culture. The work culture is very dynamic in a startup, especially one involved in IT or digital business. It is even so flexible that the hierarchical culture is not too rigid and strong. The communication culture between subordinates and superiors is very relaxed and feels informal.
On the contrary, a corporation already has a deep-rooted culture and work structure for years. A hierarchical structure in a corporate is highly valued and maintained.
The fourth is the career prospect, which is more promising in a corporate. In addition to a broader business area coverage, a corporate has various organizational structures with a clearer career path in line with the business area where an employee works.
