Managing logistics in an archipelagic country like Indonesia is challenging. Long distances, infrastructure inequality, and complicated regulations often pose obstacles.
As a maritime country with islands in a vast territory, Indonesia relies on sea transportation for interregional connectivity. In addition to carrying passengers and goods, sea transportation is one of the main contributors to state revenue.
Such vital roles drive the government to improve the logistics system and support from businesspersons across this country for the better future of Indonesia’s maritime sector.

Under the Ministry of Transportation, the Indonesian Government keeps improving the national logistics system. One of the initiatives is the National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE).
NLE aims to create an integrated logistics ecosystem, allowing a faster and more efficient distribution process. It focuses on, among others, making regulations to promote the ease of doing business and streamline the distribution of goods.
In last September’s Hub Talks, the Director of Sea Traffic and Transportation, Hartanto, affirmed the government’s commitment to simplifying regulations deterring the logistics industry. “We want to make regulations to help businesspersons," he said.
The regulations should support the administration of logistics business and transportation for the connectivity of remote areas. That way, Indonesia can achieve a more equal distribution and reduce regional inequality.

The government alone in building a robust logistics system is not enough. Collaboration with businesspersons and stakeholders is crucial. Hartanto emphasized that good coordination is key to an efficient logistics ecosystem.
Private companies should also contribute to supporting connectivity in Indonesia. By providing good sea transportation services, companies can make national logistics more efficient.
