It’s not a secret that Toyota leads Indonesian car sales. Even the top-selling car in 2023 was the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix, as per Gaikindo data. Its total sales last year amounted to 66,460 units.
This mid-class MPV outperformed the Honda Brio (62,195 units), Daihatsu Sigra (61,752 units), Toyota Avanza (59,543 units), and Toyota Calya (45,801 units).
This success is quite unique. Despite its mid-range price, Innova Zenix often outsells its lower-priced competitors, who usually lead in the Indonesian market.
Innova Zenix HEV, the hybrid type of Toyota Innova Zenix, also leads the sales of Toyota hybrid cars. In 2023, 24,250 units of Innova Zenix HEV were sold, followed by Yaris Cross HEV for 5,284 units and Corolla Cross HEV for 1,161 units.

The “Kijang Innova” has a strong legacy as a comfortable and reliable family car. However, historical imprint and renowned name alone are not enough for Innova Zenix to compete against cars in all market segments.
Toyota also furnished this 7th generation of Kijang with the latest impressive designs, features, and innovations. In its architecture, Innova Zenix uses a monocoque structure, replacing the ladder frame structure in its previous generations.
Toyota claims this monocoque frame to be lighter and quieter without compromising the car’s body rigidity. As a result, the car is lighter by 170 kg compared to the previous models, ensuring better performance and fuel efficiency.
Innova Zenix uses the 1987 cc 4-cylinder Dual VVT-I engine that produces 172 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Its hybrid variant delivers 184 hp, thanks to its electric motor.
The most significant innovation is the additional 206 Nm torque from the electric motor. This surely leads Innova Zenix Hybrid to be more powerful yet still fuel-efficient.
A Ni-MH battery underneath both front seats powered the electric motor. A filter is placed over the battery cooler to prevent dust buildup on the cooling system, maximizing the battery life.

Innova Zenix is only available in the CVT automatic transmission with 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic technology that allows manual-like gear transmission to improve the driving experience.
In addition to a sophisticated CVT, Innova Zenix comes with Eco, Normal, and Power driving modes. With Power mode activated, the car is more responsive thanks to an improved CVT steel belt.
The HEV hybrid variant features EV driving mode, where the car relies only on an electric motor as the power source.
In EV mode, you can enjoy the unique experience of electric driving. Feel its responsiveness as soon as you step on the gas and zero emissions, with the gasoline engine being temporarily inactive.
This car is equipped with sophisticated features to ensure safety. They range from dual airbags (6 airbags in the Q HV type), Vehicle Approach Notice (a warning issued when other cars or pedestrians approach the car’s certain points; only in Q HV and V HV types), ABS, EBD, and BA (Brake Assist) brakes, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and parking camera sensor (in type Q HV), to corner sensor and panoramic view monitor.
Another prime attraction of this vehicle is a series of safety features called Toyota Safety Sense 3 (TSS 3.0), which comprises a Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Automatic High Beam (AHB).
As a mid-range MPV prioritizing comfort, Innova Zenix is ready to indulge the passengers with numerous features.
