It’s undeniable that Jakarta’s air quality is deteriorating rapidly. To combat this, the Jakarta Provincial Government will implement a restriction on vehicles over 10 years old starting next year.
The policy to restrict the operation of vehicles older than 10 years is based on Governor Instruction No. 66 of 2019 on Air Quality Control, issued by Anies Baswedan in 2019.
The regulation was strengthened after President Jokowi approved Law No. 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKJ Law).
The policy has certainly caused a lot of pros and cons. What should people do if the policy is implemented in 2025?

Even though it will start next year, this policy is still open to debate, especially in the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Those supporting the policy think that it can significantly reduce air pollution and effectively solve Jakarta’s traffic congestion caused by too many private cars.
On the other hand, those against the policy suggest reviewing the policy as it could reduce the provincial government’s revenue from vehicle taxes.
They believe that efforts to improve air quality should be balanced without excessively reducing the Local Own-Source Revenue (PAD).
Whether people agree or disagree, motor vehicle users should be ready in case the policy is enforced in 2025. One way to do this is by using newer car models.
