You suddenly feel extremely sleepy during the daytime, your busy hours at work. You cannot stop yawning and struggle to keep your eyes open. You’ve been there, haven’t you? You are not alone, though, because most workers have experienced the same thing.
While it’s not uncommon, you would feel bad when it happened. Worse still, what if it happens during an important meeting with your superiors or business guests. So why do you often feel sleepy during the daytime, your busy hours at work?
According to many sources, sleepiness in the workplace can be caused by several factors, such as frequently staying up late, insomnia, fatigue, irregular work hours, jet lag, certain diseases, or side effects of medicines.

Taking a power nap can help relieve drowsiness and reenergize your body. Studies show that taking a nap for 10–15 minutes can enhance alertness and concentration, which increases productivity at work.
If you want to take a power nap in your workplace, make sure it doesn’t exceed 20 minutes lest you feel dizzy and lethargic upon waking up.
Monotonous jobs that require you to sit at a desk or in front of a computer are more likely to cause fatigue and boredom. Fatigue and boredom can lead to sleepiness.
To combat this issue, try standing for a while and doing stretching to pause your repetitive work and relax your muscles. If done correctly, this exercise can stimulate your brain and reduce sleepiness.
Dehydration or a lack of body fluids can cause fatigue and make you feel drowsy. So, make sure to take enough fluids that your body needs by drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day.

In addition, your fluid intake can also come from foods with high water content, such as fruit and vegetables.
To beat sleepiness, try moving around more. For example, you can take a walk or stretch to relax your muscles.
Walk outside of your workspace or office building and breathe fresh air; it will help you feel reenergized and fight sleepiness.
You can have eye fatigue by staring at a computer, laptop, or mobile phone screen for too long. This condition can worsen your sleepiness.
If you spend too much time staring at your screen at work, look away at something and look around you from time to time. This method can help rest and relax your eyes and reduce sleepiness.

Another tip you can follow is to eat healthy snacks that are high in protein and low in fat. For example, you can mix yogurt and a handful of nuts. High-protein, low-fat snacks can give your body an energy boost.
