Apart from MPVs and SUVs, city cars and LCGCs (Low-Cost Green Cars) are among the vehicles that have a couple of differences. But on the other hand, you have to admit that they have similarities, too, and it’s not surprising that most people often can’t tell the difference.
City cars are designed for urban ride and have a small body with decent features and technology. They also usually have a 1,200 cc and lower engine, making them more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Similarly, LCGCs are generally designed for urban residents with compact body dimensions at more affordable prices, economical fuel consumption, and environmental friendliness.
LCGCs were first introduced in 2013 as a part of the government plan to increase the production of eco-friendly cars. They also have a 1,200 cc and lower engine, just like city cars.

City cars generally prioritize advanced features for ease of driving, while LCGCs prioritize more affordable prices. If you’re still confused, let’s dig deeper into the differences between city cars and LCGCs.
The most notable difference between the two cars is its price. City cars are usually sold at a higher price than LCGCsbecause the former are equipped with more features and the latest technology.
City cars can usually cost up to Rp 250 million, while LCGCs are normally priced at around Rp200 million.
For example, a city car like the Honda Brio RS M/T is priced at around Rp243 million, while LCGCs such as Toyota Agya E M/T 1.2 are priced at around Rp168 million (lowest variant).
City cars usually have slightly smaller dimensions than LCGCs, but that’s not always the case. Despite this, they can still accommodate passengers comfortably. City cars are generally around 3.6 meters to 4 meters long.
LCGCs, on the other hand, can reach up to 4.2 meters to 4.4 meters long. In terms of width and height, city cars and LCGCs share relatively the same dimensions. If you tend to bring lots of stuff or carry lots of passengers, LCGCs might just be for you.

Both city cars and LCGCs are equipped with a 1.200 cc or lower engine, with the main difference usually is the engine’s purpose. LCGCs are designed to conserve fuel, while city cars are geared more toward performance.
However, the difference in performance and fuel efficiency between the two is barely significant since they both have the same engine capacity.
Another notable difference between the two cars, other than their price, is their features. LCGCs have more limited features, considering they are designed with an affordable price in mind without abandoning important features, such as safety and security. City cars usually have the upper hand when it comes to comfort and entertainment features.
The one definitive thing about LCGC cars is that their production is carried out in Indonesia. Everything from the design and assembly to distribution is done locally and utilizes domestic technicians, thus lowering the price.

Meanwhile, city cars are generally designed and assembled in other countries and are then imported to be sold in Indonesia.
For LCGCs, the brands and types currently available in the marketplace are Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya, and Honda Brio Satya. Daihatsu Sigra and Toyota Calya are still considered LCGCs despite both generally having a small MPV body.
City cars also have lots of brands and types to choose from. Among them are the Honda Brio RS, Toyota Agya GR Sport, Suzuki S-Presso, Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kwid, and Citroen C3.
Those are the differences between city cars and LCGCs. If you want to go cheaper, you can rent a car to facilitate everyday mobility. Not only are you free to choose the car that suits your needs, but you also don’t have to worry about car maintenance.
