Holidays and Collective Leave Days of 2024

It is the perfect time for you to plan your holidays and day-offs since it is still early in 2024. When you plan for your holidays, you can better organize and prepare for your vacation with your family or loved ones.

It would be best if you didn’t take day-offs and holidays for granted. This is because taking a holiday is one of many ways to recharge and refresh your body and soul, especially if you have no time to breathe from your daily routines.

A quality holiday may increase your work spirit, which in turn positively impacts your career. However, there is no need to spend a lot of money on a quality holiday. The important thing is to plan accordingly to maximize your holiday.

Most of the important holidays fall on the weekends this year, just like last year. But worry not! The government has issued several collective leave days, so there will still be days off on weekdays. All you need to do is to plan with your family or friends to decide on the perfect date.

These regulations on holidays and collective leave days are stated in the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers: the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPANRB).

According to the regulations, there are a total of 27 holidays and collective leave days across 2024. Pretty exciting, huh!

January–March: More Long Holiday Choices

As usual, January kicks off with the New Year celebrations. This time, however, falls on a Monday, making many people take advantage of the long weekend. In addition to that, the week before is also an extended Christmas holiday at the end of 2023.

However, if you missed your chance to go on a holiday earlier this year, then February is the right month for you. There are two holidays and one consecutive collective leave day, which allows you to take a 5-day holiday without risking your annual leave.

The holiday starts on Thursday, February 8 (Isra Mir’aj of Prophet Muhammad SAW) and Friday, February 9 (Chinese New Year 2575 Kongzili). In addition, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, is Election Day and a national holiday.

March consists of two long weekends, specifically at the middle and end of the month. First, on Monday, March 11, is the Silent Day (Nyepi) celebration commemorating the Saka New Year 1946, and the collective leave day after.

Consider this if you are planning to travel to Bali around this timeunless if you would like to experience following the Nyepi procession on Dewata Island.

The pinnacle of this long weekend falls on March 29, which starts with commemorating the Death of Jesus Christ and ends with the Easter celebration on March 31.

Some recommended destinations for spending your holiday and celebrating Easter include Larantuka in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Manado, Yogyakarta, and Samosir Island in North Sumatra.

April–June: Time for ‘Mudik’

Time for ‘mudik’! This year, Lebaran is predicted to be on around April 10–11. According to the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers, the government has decided on 4 dates for collective leave: April 8, 9, 12, and 15.

Combining that with the weekends, that’s a total of 10 days for mudik (exodus). A trip back to your hometown can be done starting Saturday, May 6. However, it is undoubtedly more exciting if you travel earlier.

The month of May has 5 holidays. The first holiday is May Day, which falls on Wednesday, May 1.  You should consider a two-day leave if you would like to go on a holiday.

On May 9 and 10, we commemorate the Ascension of Jesus Christ, which coincidentally creates yet another long weekend.

If you missed your chance to take a holiday on those dates, try planning your holiday on May 23 and 24 (Vesak Day 2568 and a collective leave day). Those dates can also be a perfect moment to experience the Vesak Day celebration in Borobudur Temple, Magelang.

June also has its fair share of long weekends. One of those is Eid al-Adha 1445 H and the collective leave day after, which is expected to fall on Monday, June 17. Most people would take advantage of this to gather with their families and do their mudik if they missed it on Eid al-Fitr.

July–September: Exciting Weekends

It seems like the intensity of holidays has calmed down in this period. This is because most holidays fall on the weekends. Take the Islamic New Year 1446 H holiday, for example, which is predicted to fall on Sunday, July 7.

Furthermore, the National Independence Day and its celebration also falls on Saturday, August 17. Despite this, September has one long weekend. It is on September 16, which is the Maulid of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

October–December: Christmas and End of Year Holidays

Unfortunately, both October and November have no holidays. However, it will return back on December starting with Christmas. According to the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers, December 25 and 26 are Christmas Day and collective leave day, respectively.

Since the two dates fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, this is an excellent opportunity to take your leave on Monday or even extend it until the new year.

Overall, there are a lot of holidays and collective leave days in 2024. You must take advantage of this by planning ahead starting now. As mentioned, a quality holiday will positively impact your spirit and relieve stress.
