When you find someone looking stressed or depressed, you might hear the term mental health being tossed around as the cause of the problem. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health refers to one’s condition that includes emotional, psychological, and social dimensions.
It largely determines how they cope with stress, deal with people, and make choices. While mental health is just as important as physical health, it doesn’t necessarily mean that someone mentally unhealthy is having a mental disorder.
As WHO puts it, if you’re mentally healthy, you can realize all your potential, manage stress effectively, be productive at work, and function well as a social being. That’s why mental health is vital.
The United Nations specialized agency goes on to explain that everyone everywhere is susceptible to mental health problems, from adults to teenagers and even children.
The 2022 Indonesia – National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS) reports that 34 percent of adolescents in Indonesia have mental health problems, while 41.2 percent of adults in the country do.

Everyone needs to be aware of mental health problems. When it’s too little, too late, they can lead to depression and begin to eat away at physical health.
Someone who is mentally unhealthy will lose productivity, especially at work, find it more challenging to interact with others socially, fall into irregular eating habits, and have problems sleeping even after a tiring day.
Try to maintain a positive attitude about yourself and others. When you fail to achieve something, don’t be so hard on yourself.
And when it comes to someone else, give them the benefit of the doubt that they don’t really hate you when they show bitterness or hostility toward you. It might very well be that there’s something about you that you need to change.
Always be kind and have a positive attitude toward them. Besides, subjectivity might play a huge role in their opinions about you, so it’s best to reserve your judgment.
Care for your physical well-being to keep that vim and vigor in you, just like that old Latin saying Mens sana in corpore sano. When you’re physically healthy, you’ll be mentally healthy too.

Socializing with your friends, family, or relatives always entails communication between you and them. Remember that communicating with others, whether in person or indirectly on the phone or via texts, can be stress-relieving.
Communication, particularly the direct one, can cheer you up, too. You can interactively share fun, exciting stories when you meet up with your friends.
You are what you eat. Consuming unhealthy food will make you more likely to go down with an illness and weaken your immune system.
And poor physical health will take a toll on your mental condition. When you let your physical well-being get worse, you’re letting your mental health deteriorate in the process.
Not taking enough breaks will negatively impact your whole body. When you force yourself to keep going, your organs are working nonstop when, in fact, each has its own designed capacity of endurance.
Constantly pushing yourself can not only lead to fatigue but also upset your mental balance. It’s worth making time for rest, primarily if you work at a company that demands high discipline from its employees.
