On October 27, 2022, PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA) held a batik event entitled “Overnight at SERA” to commemorate National Batik Day on the 3rd floor of Graha SERA, Sunter. This event was part of SERA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities by collaborating with Rumah Batik Pal Batu, an inclusive MSME batik house fostered by SERA.
The event, attended by 30 SERA employees, showed the process of making batik, with each participant able to use canting (dipper) and malam (wax) on a piece of cloth. In addition, participants were also shown batik works made by individuals with disabilities and cancer warriors.
This activity was also part of SERA’seffortto achieve the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goal 4: Quality Education, goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and goal 17: Partnership for the Goals. Furthermore, through this event, SERA people may appreciate and protect batik works, ensuring that the existence of batik is preserved and that they can compete in the Globalization Era.
“Batik is a process that uses canting to create an original work that may provide its maker a unique impression. The process of making written batik describes the quality that is maintained, and the various batik motifs each have their own meaning for the artisans, in order to create a spirit to continue working and producing other authentic works,” said Happy Putro Wibowo, SERA’s Corporate General Affairs, Social Responsibility, Health Safety Security and Environment (CGASRHSSE) Division Head.
“For me, batik depicts the beauty in diversity. Batik’s different patterns and colors illustrate the beauty of diversity. As in life, diversity makes our lives less boring and monotonous,” concluded Happy Putro Wibowo.
