Traveling Out of Town? You Need Antigen Tests

The government has tightened travel regulations as Covid-19 cases in Indonesia are still increasing and have not shown a significant reduction. Various regulations were issued by the government to limit the mobilization of people, especially when traveling out of town, either using public transportation or personal transportation. 

Currently, the Government requires you to bring the result of a rapid antigen test if you want to travel outside the city. A negative result of a rapid antigen test has become a new policy that people must comply with if they are going to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of rapid antigen tests are required for passengers of land, sea, and air transportation modes.

This regulation has been imposed since the Christmas 2020 and the New Year 2021 holidays, which is regulated on the Circular Letter No. 3 of 2020 on the Travel Health Protocol in Indonesia during Christmas and Welcoming New Year 2021 Holidays in the Covid-19 Pandemic Period. 

In the provisions issued by the National Task Force for Covid-19 Management of the Republic of Indonesia, the following are the rules for the rapid antigen test for out-of-town destinations.

Bali

Travelers traveling to Bali by air transportation are required to show negative results of the PCR test no later than 7x24 hours or D-7 before departure. Those who travel by land or sea are required to show negative results of rapid antigen tests no later than 3x24 hours or D-3 before departure.

Java Island

Those who travel by air transportations or inter-city rail services are required to show negative results of rapid antigen tests no later than 3x24 hours or D-3 before departure. The same is true for travelers traveling on land by public or personal transportations.

Lampung

Domestic travelers traveling to Lampung via air transportation are required to show non-reactive results of rapid antigen tests no later than 2x24 hours before departure and fill Indonesia’s e-HAC. Those who travel by personal vehicles on land and sea are also required to show non-reactive results of rapid antigen tests no later than 2x24 hours before departure.

North Sumatra

The Governor of North Sumatra (Sumut) has issued regulations regarding the requirements for Domestic Travelers who enter the Province of North Sumatra (Sumut). In the regulations, travelers are required to show negative results of either PCR or rapid antigen tests with a validity period of 14 days.

Bangka Belitung

The Government of Bangka Belitung Province requires travelers going in and out of the region to have non-reactive results of rapid antigen tests.

How long is the validity period of the rapid antigen test?

The Indonesian Ministry of Health in its statement said the validity period of the rapid antigen test as a travel requirement is a maximum of 14 days upon departure.

Regarding the price, according to the Circular Number HK.02.02 /1/4611/2020 on the highest tariff limit for the rapid antigen test, the maximum tariff limit is IDR 250,000 in Java and IDR 275,000 outside Java.

It should be noted that if you’re traveling during the Christmas and New Year holidays, even if your negative result is still valid, as a traveler you need to take the swab again.  This is because one of the requirements of travel is to show a negative rapid antigen test no later than D-3 before departure for travelers from and to Java Island.
