Teluk Lamong Terminal Capacity Expanded to Develop Logistics Sector

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero) is expanding the capacity of shipping container storage by enlarging Teluk Lamong Terminal (TTL) in Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya. The expansion increases the terminal’s capacity by 50%.

"Pelindo III is committed to developing Teluk Lamong Terminal in phases. We are now in the second phase, in which we enlarge the container yard from the existing 10 blocks with a capacity of 1 million TEUs to 15 blocks with a capacity of 1.5 million TEUs," Pelindo III CEO Ari Akshara was quoted as saying by Kompas.com, Tuesday (April 10).

Therefore, the terminal will be able to store more shipping containers. The project is estimated to finish in 18 months or approximately at the beginning of 2019. This estimation is sooner than the two-year target in the contract.

Meanwhile, in the final expansion, the total capacity of shipping container storage will reach 6.5 million TEUs in 30 blocks. The plan is in line with Pelindo III’s target to make TTL the main container terminal in Tanjung Perak Port. Pelindo III has earmarked Rp400 billion for the investment.

However, TTL expansion does not stop at just expanding the container yard. The basin of Teluk Lamongan will also be dredged to a depth of 16 meters low water springs (LWS). Previously, the bay had a depth of 14 meters LWS.

The dredging will bring significant improvement to the services offered by TTL. The terminal will be able to accommodate ships with 80,000 metric tons of deadweight tonnage. This will affect the efficiency of shipments.

Not only that, the development project can support logistics sector, improving cost effectiveness. The stability of prices in different parts of the country can be more balanced.

This development is warmly welcomed by logistics business people, including SELOG. As a subsidiary of PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA) operating in logistics, SELOG believes the expansion of the terminal can also improve its services.

Up to now, SELOG has been providing integrated and complete logistics services, from planning, implementation, to monitoring. For domestic cargo shipment, SELOG has Shipping Services, delivery and distribution services by ship.

SELOG also has Freight Forwarding service that guarantees the safety of the shipments to be delivered on time with zero defect. There is also Courier Services for sending packages using same-day service, next-day service, and regular service.
