Don’t Take Long Paid Leave Before You Do These

As the year comes to an end, employees often take paid leave to extend their holiday. It gives them opportunities for healing and recharge. Many spend it on vacation, homecoming trips, or just generally having fun.

Before you get to enjoy yourself, though, there are works to be done. Don’t let unfinished jobs ruin your holiday or surprise you when you return.

5 Must-Do Before the Holiday Season

Get All Work Done

First and foremost, get all your work done. Make sure to complete everything assigned to you before you take leave. By doing so, you can enjoy your time off guilt-free.

If absolutely necessary, delegate some of your tasks to someone else so they can be finished earlier. Keep in mind, though, that everyone already has something on their plate. Be careful when you delegate so that the tasks won’t end up neglected and handled poorly.

Give Clear Instructions

Before you leave, inform the relevant people and hand over your finished work with clear instructions. Make sure they know how long you will be away.

Thorough preparation before a long absence goes a long way to avoid misunderstandings. Your coworkers will be able to handle any necessary adjustments to your work while you are away.

Set Your Availability

During your time off, will you be available for a call when something comes up at work? Will there be specific times when people can reach you? How can they reach you while you are away?

It’s important for you to assess the situation and clearly communicate your availability to coworkers and boss.

Leave Your Desk Spic and Span

Before rushing away to enjoy the holiday, tidy up your space first. Keep important files secure. Unplug all electronics to prevent accidents.

Take all these precautions so you can enjoy your vacation without anxiety. Additionally, a clean desk can give you an instant mood boost when you return to work.

Prepare a To-Do List

Sometimes, a long, pleasant holiday makes you forget the pending responsibilities, and when the time comes to return to work, you find yourself not feeling up to it.

Ready or not, you still have to show up. Before leaving for the holiday, preparing a list of work to be done when you return will help you get through your first days of coming back.

To have a nice, enjoyable—and above all, meaningful—time off, you’ll want to do all of the above before you take your long paid leave. Ensuring you have quality time away from work helps with your productivity and overall mental health.
