The Difference between Avanza and Veloz, the Separate Twins

Many people think Veloz is just a variant of Avanza. Indeed, Veloz was initially the top-tier variant of the Avanza, with some additional ornaments and slight design differences.

However, in November 2021, Toyota officially ‘separated’ them. Toyota Veloz is no longer part of the Avanza family. On the outside, Avanza and Veloz now look distinctly different.

Toyota has created more differences, emphasizing that Veloz and Avanza are produced for different consumer targets. Want to know what these differences are? Continue reading to find out.

5 Key Differences between Avanza and Veloz

Market Segment

Even when it was part of the Avanza line, Veloz targeted a different segment. After the separation, this difference widened. Avanza is offered to first-time car buyers who want high value for money.

On the other hand, Veloz targets consumers who desire more advanced and luxurious features. Many buyers choose Veloz as an upgrade from their Avanza.

Exterior and Interior

There are noticeable differences in their exterior. Veloz boasts a sportier look with a dark chrome garnish grille, while Avanza maintains an elegant chrome design.

Inside, Veloz’s interior is dominated by black, giving a luxurious impression. In contrast, Avanza’s interior looks brighter with a grey color scheme.

Features

Veloz comes with more advanced features. It has an Electric Parking Brake with Brake Hold, while Avanza uses a conventional emergency brake.

Another standout feature in Veloz is the Wireless Charger on the center console, allowing drivers to recharge their phones wirelessly. Avanza, meanwhile, sticks with USB ports.

For entertainment, Veloz boasts a 7-inch TFT screen and Drive Mode Switch, while Avanza uses a 4.2-inch TFT screen.

In terms of safety, the latest variants of both models feature Toyota Safety Sense, which includes Pre-Collision System and Braking, Front Departure Alert, Pedal Misoperation Control, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Rear Crossing Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Monitoring.

Engine Capacity

Avanza offers two engine options: a 1,300 cc (1NR-VE) and a 1,500 cc (2NR-VE). Veloz comes standard with the 1,500 cc (2NR-VE) engine, matching Avanza’s highest variant.

Avanza’s 1,300-cc engine generates 98 PS of power and 12.4 kgm of torque. The 1,500 cc engine in both Veloz and Avanza produces 106 PS and 14 kgm of torque. Both models offer 5-speed manual transmission and automatic CVT options.

Price

As expected, Avanza and Veloz come with different price tags. Targeting first-time car buyers, Avanza is more affordable than Veloz. The most budget-friendly Avanza, the 1.3 E M/T variant, starts at Rp239.7 million. The top-end 1.5 G CVT A/T variant is pricedat Rp276.7 million.
